Demonstration Workshops now forming
Learn the basic skills needed to spin metal. Classes begin over coffee/tea with a short tour,
followed by a short talk on safety issues, some of which will surprise you. I'll show you how to
grind two styles of metal trimming tools, how to make a chuck (or mandrel), demonstrate
follow block fundamentals, and how to set up the lathe for spinning. As I begin spinning some
simple shapes, you'll learn the proper body positions, then I'll take you through the beginning
spinning strokes. Throughout the day, I'll be explaining theory of spinning, pointing out
common pitfalls, and most importantly, describing the difference between a good spinning and
a spinning that is best thrown in the scrap barrel. Group size is limited to four students, first
come-first served. All materials are included in the tuition, and each student will take home free
printed material. A lunch will be provided.
